FAQs

What is TMJ or jaw massage?
-TMJ refers to the actual jaw joint: temporomandibular joint. Jaw massage integrates specific massage techniques involving internal and external release of the mastication muscles. In other words, I will help release the muscles that help you chew, talk and swallow!

What is intra-oral?
-intra- oral is a massage technique in which a trained professional dons a non-latex glove and works inside of the mouth, to release or influence muscles experiencing pain or discomfort from TMJ (jaw) issues. A simple test is done prior to to ensure this technique is indicated, and of course with the consent of the client.

Does TMJ or jaw massage hurt? I've heard it hurts.
-safe, effective and client-centric TMJ treatments should not hurt in order to be effective. To ensure the comfort of my clients, I work with the breath, establish non-verbal hand signals and look for body language changes, as well as check in with the client and ensure they feel safe for the duration of the treatment.

Can I come see you if i get Botox injections?
-if you are receiving any injections or fillers, please wait two weeks before booking in with me. Always consult with your doctor prior to booking.

Is it like a Buccal massage?
-many times, Buccal massage is performed by an aesthetician who may not have the depth of training I possess. If they are going into the mouth without the correct training, that could be potentially harmful. I strive to work within scope of practice based on my governing body, the CMTO. I am not providing you with a treatment that is aesthetics based.

Is this covered by my benefits?
-yes it is! A majority of extended healthcare plans should cover this type of massage therapy. However, you may be asked to present a Doctor's note for massage therapy in order to direct bill.
